.KEY MESSAGES...

* Dry conditions and elevated winds will result in critical fire
  weather conditions tomorrow.

* Temperatures will increase next week as high pressure builds
  over the Southwestern US.

.DISCUSSION...Today through Wednesday.

A shortwave trough will approach the West Coast tomorrow, resulting
in breezy southerly to southwesterly winds picking up across the
region. For the most part peak wind gusts will be in the 25 to 35
mph range, with isolated 40+ mph wind gusts in areas of higher
terrain. These winds, combined with low afternoon humidity will
result in critical fire weather conditions across southern Nevada
and northwestern Arizona - see the FIRE WEATHER section below for
further details. In addition to critical fire weather conditions,
this shortwave will also cause temperatures to "cool" a few degrees,
with more seasonal temperatures over the weekend.

Ridging will build in over the Southwestern US beginning early next
week. As 500 mb heights increase, so will temperatures with
high temperatures topping out around 5 to 10 degrees above normal
by the middle of the week. This will result in widespread
Moderate HeatRisk (Level 2 of 4) across the area with pockets of
Major HeatRisk (Level 3 of 4) beginning to pop up in lower
elevation valleys like the Colorado River Valley and Las Vegas
Valley. This level of heat will affect anyone without sufficient
cooling or hydration, especially those spending time outdoors.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 06Z Forecast
Package...Overnight, winds will remain around 5-10KT out of the
south to southwest, before backing to the south-southeast mid-
morning. At that point, gusts to around 20KT will resume, with
winds expected to veer to the southwest by early to mid-afternoon,
increasing to around 15KT with gusts to 25KT. These winds will
persist through around midnight, with gusts diminishing but
sustained speeds remaining around 10-12KT. VFR conditions will
continue with FEW-SCT clouds around 15-20kft, and wildfire smoke
from fires north of the Las Vegas Valley continuing to impact
approaches through the Mormon Mesa corridor. Temperatures will
exceed 100F again around 19Z-03Z, reaching a high of 103F around
00Z.


For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 06Z Forecast Package...Gusts around the
region have largely diminished this evening, with southerly to
southwesterly winds around 5-10KT expected for most overnight.
Gusty southerly to southwesterly winds will resume mid-morning
onward, with gusts to 20-25KT in the morning increasing to 25-30KT
during the afternoon. An exception to this will be across the
northern Owens Valley, including KBIH, where elevated/gusty up-
valley winds are expected to persist through mid- to late
afternoon aside from a brief lull late tonight through mid-
morning. Late in the period, winds there will veer to the
southwest and then to the north-northwest. Additionally, across
the western Mojave Desert, including KDAG, winds will generally
remain westerly, becoming gusty with gusts to 25-35KT from mid-
morning onward. Otherwise, VFR conditions will prevail with FEW-
SCT clouds at or above 12kft, and some haze due to lofted wildfire
smoke across the region.

.FIRE WEATHER...A shortwave trough will approach the West Coast
tomorrow, resulting in southerly to southwesterly winds picking up
across the region. 20 to 25 mph sustained winds with gusts up to 35
mph are expected across southern Nevada and northwestern Arizona
late Friday morning through Friday evening. These elevated winds
combined with afternoon relative humidities in the single digits to
low teens will result in critical fire weather conditions across
southern Nevada and northwestern Arizona. Given these critical
conditions, the Fire Weather Watch has been upgraded to a Red Flag
Warning.
